Cisco To Buy Jasper Technologies For $1.4 Billion

Cisco today announced that it will buy Jasper Technologies, developers of the Internet cloud platform objects of $ 1.4 billion.
Jasper with Cisco to create a company that understands the Internet market in full swing of things. Although the term IO heard a little bit, it simply means talking online interconnected machines. This could be the industrial automation equipment in a production plant, a connected car, a wind turbine connected or even a smart thermostat.
Jasper simply provides a platform for building these connected devices and deliver them to market faster and with less friction, Jahangir Mohammed, CEO, Jasper said in a press conference to announce the purchase today.
What these systems do is generate tons of data and requires a platform to process, manage and understand all the information that is provided by these devices. The cloud is particularly appropriate for this level of data (large) part because companies can change everything they need and the amount of data increases.

An IO service could help fight against disturbances

Cisco clearly recognizes this and tries to take advantage of it. As vice president of business development of the company's affairs Rob Salvagno wrote in a blog post announcing the purchase:

Cisco sees Jasper as a unique platform IO services disturbs the mass market with a strong strategic alignment with Cisco. Jasper is the largest platform of scale in IO today with over 3,500 business customers and 100 countries in 27 service providers.

As Cisco tries to fight the disruptive forces, an industry focused on the Internet of Things is, especially with a folded cloud. Jasper gives the company an industrial company specializing vast catalog of international clients including Ford, GM, Heineken and Boston Scientific, to name a few.

This is not a market, whether fixed, Mohammed said. He sees growth in areas such as the automotive industry connected, industrial automation and security (as the connected home and security of the building) in the coming years.

Salvagno also see the two companies that have great cultural fit, which could make it easier to combine must pass the examination of the regulatory agreement. "Jasper and Cisco share a common vision to accelerate the IO," he said.

In terms of keeping employees in the Jasper transition, Salvagno said during the Q & Press A event set aside a retention pool of employees and Cisco are actively focuses on employee retention in place possible.

Gets the potential of Cisco Growth

Cisco made a great move in the software and this move makes sense in the context of the networking of the main force of the company, said R Ray Wang, founder of Constellation Research.

"The battle in IOT is finally on the network. Sensors, batteries and will be platforms for consumer networks. However, the need for network foundation. He is very intelligent and calculated by the movement of Cisco," said Wang TechCrunch .

Indeed, even in networks has become a commodity and loses value, the side of the Cisco software offers a viable way to grow in the future.
It seems to be quite an outlet for the technology company based in Santa Clara, who at this point had raised more than $ 200 million, according to Crunchbase. The last round was $ 50 million in September 2014.

Gaurav Garg, founding partner of the venture capital industry and member of the board Jasper was excited by the possibilities of this agreement. He believes that putting the two companies will result in a powerful combined entity a market at an early stage.

"We are still in the early stages of the revolution of the IO, which I compare to the spread of electrification of the late nineteenth century. And the creation of the grid caused a great outpouring of innovation, so the ability physical devices connected to the Internet will lead to many decades of new applications, some of which are already visible in the form of drones and driverless cars, "he wrote in an email Garg.
